Haleakala Crater on Maui is the inspirational world fire vortex, or spinner wheel. Spiritual themes associated with this centre are liberty, justice, adjustment and purpose. The sun, fire, Aries and the global ley artery – the Plumed Serpent – are important at Haleakala. Along with the earth element vortex, Table Mountain, at Cape Town, Haleakala generates a spinning force that helps move the great Plumed Serpent around the world.
Inspirations and visions sparked by Haleakala need to be given structure at Midway Atoll. Each earth chakra, or major planetary organ, consists of three core centres. These three sacred centres should be worked with in order: 1. inspirational 2. structural 3. creative. Inspirations from the first site are made useful at the structural centre and then developed creatively at the third centre. For the world fire element vortex this pattern is 1. Haleakala 2. Midway Atoll 3. Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea.
In the Hawaiian language the name for Midway is Pihemanu, meaning the loud din of birds. Midway Atoll and Pihemanu are both appropriate names for this sacred site. Midway is equidistant between the United States and Japan. It is midway around the world from the Greenwich meridian in England. 140 miles from the International Date Line, Midway is the last place on Earth for the observance of daily solar events. The last planetary sunset or sunrise of the day is experienced on Midway.
Pihemanu is also apropos, as 70% of the total world population of the Laysan albatross nest there. These Midway birds range the North Pacific as far as Japan and Alaska and return on the Aries full moon to build their nests. The recovery of Pihemanu’s bird population is the great success story of the world fire element centres during the first time cycle activation period, from 1989 to 2008. As Midway is part of one of the 13 archetypal centres of the living earth, this restoration to health is vital.
Midway is most famous for its crucial role in World War II. Only the most intrepid Gooney Bird – as the albatross is known – dared to venture onto Midway in 1942. The Battle of Midway, 4 June, 1942, was the turning point for the Pacific theatre of the war. It was as great a reversal of strategic fortune as the world has ever seen. During the Battle of Midway, the Atoll was designated Noah’s Ark. The U.S. fighters defending Midway were led by Rainbow Leader.
Six months earlier, on 7 December, 1941, the Japanese aircraft carrier Akagi (red castle – named after a volcanic mountain near Tokyo) led the surprise attack on Pearl Harbour. At Midway, dive bombers from the U.S.S. Enterprise struck back and sank the Akagi. There are many excellent accounts of the Battle of Midway in books and on the internet.
The Enterprise and its commander, Raymond A. Spruance, are the original templates or inspirations for Star Trek’s Captain Kirk and his Enterprise. Spruance is recognized at the greatest tactician ever to wear an admiral’s uniform. Senator Richard Lugar is part of the current effort to award Spruance with a posthumous fifth star. Only four admirals have ever reached five stars.
On the Wesak Scorpio full moon – the annual Mt. Kailas world crown chakra event – rituals were conducted to contribute to the spiritual restoration of Midway. The Aquarius and Aries world centres were linked. On 12 May, 1998 Haruo Yoshino, a survivor of the Kaga (flower bud), performed a Shinto ritual over the waters near where the Akagi went down. Waters of Everlasting Life from Mt. Fuji – the inspirational Aquarian world beauty and immortality centre - along with lotus blossoms and sake, were given to the ocean. A prayer for world peace and harmony among all beings was spoken.
One lunar fortnight later, at the exact instant of the Gemini new moon – sacred to El Tule and Palenque, on 25 May, 1998, the ritual team relocated over the sunken Yorktown. A flower lei from Midway Atoll was placed upon the water above the ship. When the Yorktown went down it took within one of its lockers iconic artifacts signaling the future harmonization of East and West – a Buddha and a Bible.
The Battle of Midway was an archetypal event at a place of great earth magick – the world structural fire centre. The astrology at the time of the Battle, on 4 June, 1942, is revealing: Saturn and Uranus were conjunct on the Taurus-Gemini cusp and were trine to a stationary Neptune. Within the Great Sea of Peace a lightning bolt realigns and energizes the global patterns of the Aquarian Aeon.
John Ford, the great Hollywood film director, was on Sand Island at Midway on the day the Atoll was attacked. He had just won back to back best director Oscars for The Grapes of Wrath in 1940 and How Green Was My Valley in 1941. He was knocked unconscious while filming the attack, revived, and carried on. The resulting film, Battle of Midway, won Ford an Oscar for the best documentary in 1942. Ford said of his Midway experience “I have never seen a greater exhibition of courage and coolness under fire”.
Aries new and full moons are sacred to Midway Atoll. Aries is the god of war. From the 1940’s to the 1990’s Midway was a military base. In 1987, when the Plumed Serpent ley artery was activated - with a massive contribution from the Haleakala spinner wheel - things began to rapidly change at Midway. On 22 April, 1988 Midway was proclaimed a future National Wildlife Refuge. By 1992 the military shut down their activities and began a great clean-up to restore Midway back to its spiritual Earth function. The amount of toxic substances accumulated over 50 years was substantial. On 10 September, 1993 the navy facility closed. On Samhain, 1996 the National Wildlife Refuge, managed by the Fish and Wildlife Service, became operational. Finally, on 15 June, 2006, the President declared it a National Monument.
Between Midway gaining its status as a National Monument in 2006 and the end of the first Great Wesak Cycle in April, 2008, the time is right for the stabilization of ecotourism to Midway. Currently, if you can find your own way there or take an expensive cruise liner, it is possible to do Earth Chakra work at Midway. More options should become available by 2008.
Midway Atoll is 10 kilometres in diameter and contains two main islands. Wildlife staff and visitors are based on the larger Sand Island. Eastern Island is kept for the Gooney Birds and their avian associates, but may be visited. There are also two very small islands, Gooney and Spit, which are nesting areas.
If you are at Midway for an Aries new or full moon, seek out the best meditation site. On the main Sand Island try one of the points looking out to the ocean. The most sacred full moon for Midway is the Aries full moon in September or October. This full moon is the annual signal for the Albatross to return to the island and build their nests.
As stated above, the restoration of a healthy albatross population at Midway is one of the great success stories of recent years. Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s great poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, symbolically parallels this development. Coleridge was living at Nether Stowey, in Somerset, within sight of the world heart chakra of Glastonbury Tor, when this poem was inspirationally created. The Glastonbury Zodiac, a vast natural landscape temple, generates an unending stream of planetary archetypes and myths out into the ley arteries of the world in this area, inspiring artists from many cultures. Glastonbury is a Cauldron of eternal, living symbols. Coleridge was extremely sensitive and receptive to these energies and patterns.
As the poem opens, an ancient Mariner – who we later learn is a version of the Wandering Jew – is divinely compelled to communicate his hard-earned wisdom to a Wedding Guest. The Mariner, as we slowly realize during the development of the poem, is around 300 years old. He was born somewhere in the 1490’s. He tells his story to the Wedding Guest in the 1790’s, in an unnamed country – probably England. He sailed on the first ship to enter the Pacific Ocean. Historically, this was the Magellan voyage, which reached the Pacific on 20 November, 1520. Coleridge is telling a contemporary story, containing a very old protagonist.
Coleridge makes the Mariner’s tale a combination of the events that happened during the Magellan-Del Cano circling of the world with that of Sir Francis Drake’s first English circumnavigation, which entered the Pacific on 6 September, 1578. Coleridge’s description of the violent storms driving the ship towards the South Pole is taken from the Drake voyage. Said Drake: “God by a contrary wind and intolerable tempest seemed to see himself against us.” Also, Drake’s ship was called the Pelican when it started the voyage and was later renamed the Golden Hind after surviving the storms. This recreation of the Pelican parallels the poem’s transformations of the meaning of the albatross. The episode where Coleridge describes the becalming of the Mariner’s ship and their total loss of food and water during this experience is taken from the Magellan expedition.
The Mariner begins his story: He sailed on a ship that left Europe and was driven by storms almost to the South Pole. A great albatross came to their rescue. The sailors saw it as a pious bird of good omen and welcomed it with joy. As they played with it and fed it their fortune changed and harmony with nature was restored. They got back on the right spiritual path and their ship sailed smoothly north into the Pacific Ocean, heading towards the albatross homeland around Midway.
Suddenly, the short-lived cooperation between humans and nature was violently broken. The Mariner stupidly killed the albatross. As they neared Midway, nature began to exact its revenge. The ship became becalmed and all the elements turned against them. Their water – the symbol of divine love and nourishment – was all gone:
Water, water every where, Nor any drop to drink.
Several sailors dreamed that a great earth spirit, like a sea dragon, had flowed along underneath them from the South Pole to the Midway area. They exacerbate their break with nature by also demonizing this nature deva. Today, we know that the great Rainbow and Plumed Serpents are life enhancing and do flow over land and across the great oceans.
The situation worsens; all of nature is demonized. Finally, a supernatural spectral ship crewed by Death and his mate, Life-in-Death, approaches. This is symbolic of the destination of the pathway divorced from nature – it leads to death. Life-in-Death has the power to immortalise those who are chosen by Destiny. She wins control of the Mariner’s fate in a dice game with Death. All the other sailors die and the Mariner watches their souls fly like arrows to either heaven or hell. But the Mariner’s fearful destiny is to never die until all of humanity is in harmony with nature, in the far future. There is no sign within the poem that he will die when this future goal is attained.
For seven days and seven nights the Mariner contemplates the consequences of his action, constantly stared at by the curse of 200 dead men’s eyes. Then the full moon of revelation rises, the full moon of Midway – the Aries full moon – and the Mariner begins his initiation. He looks up to the full moon and realizes that the moon and stars are in perfect harmony with nature. Beneath the bright light of the full moon he beholds the beauty and happiness of the great planetary serpents:
They moved in tracks of shining white, And when they reared, the elfish light Fell off in hoary flakes.
Blue, glossy green, and velvet black, They coiled and swam; and every track Was a flash of golden fire.
Oh happy living things! no tongue Their beauty might declare: A spring of love gushed from my heart, And I blessed them . . .
This act of blessing nature – previously perceived as sinister – with waters of love from his heart breaks the curse. Now the Mariner begins to understand his Immortal Destiny. He must work with the planetary serpent devas and all of nature to expand these heart waters of the Holy Grail until all of creation is redeemed.
When the curse breaks, the lead weight of involvement with death vanishes, and the Mariner regains the ability to pray. Prayer is a grace that must only be radiated while in a state of joy and thanksgiving. Next, the Immortals begin to work with him. The physically immortal Mary puts the Mariner into a deep healing sleep. When he awakens, the heavens open up and it rains. In response to his giving spiritual waters to the serpents, nature replies with literal, life-restoring rain. The Mariner feels his healed Immortal Light Body. He is in his physical body, yet free of gravity.
Nature and spiritual forces work together to bring the Mariner back from the abyss. Angelic seraph-men – Immortals – are sent by Mary to temporarily inhabit the bodies of the 200 dead sailors. This supernatural crew begins to sail the ship away from the Midway area and back towards the south. In obedience to the 200 seraph-men, the great planetary serpent from the South Pole moves the ship along, without any material winds, until they reach the equator.
In order to establish a foundation for the teleportation of the ship, the seraph-men perform a wonderful alchemical musical ritual. They project their songs to the Living Sun. This sun also shines upon the Mariner’s distant homeland. The intelligent sun gathers up all the beautiful sounds of nature from the Mariner’s home – sky-larks and flowing forest streams – and projects this music back to the Mariner and the seraph-men. By giving and receiving sounds through the sun, the way home is prepared and activated.
At this point, the divine forces shift into teleportation mode. The Mariner is transformed so that he can endure light speed travel. In an instant the ship leaps south from the equator, rounds the Cape, and flashes up the Atlantic towards Europe. Nature devas witness this and ask
But why drives on that ship so fast, Without or wave or wind?
The reply is illuminating:
The air is cut away before, And closes from behind.
In teleportation – also called the Shortening of the Way – a superconductivity of movement is obtained, where all resistance between you and your destination is eliminated. When the air is cut away before you, your heart flies to its destiny in a flash. Always pray to be exactly where you can be of the highest service to the Divine Plan. This is one of the secrets of teleportation.
When this teleportation ends the ship returns to normal speed, just south of its port in Europe. A gentle breeze guides the ship into the Ancient Mariner’s home harbour. Just before he reaches home he has a final vision of the future destiny of a humanity in harmony with all the divine forces of nature. The 200 seraph-men, in bright material bodies, step out of the 200 dead bodies. The welcoming party rowing out to greet the ship witness these bright Immortals and are struck with wonder when they find them gone:
Where are those lights so many and fair, That signal made but now?
The welcome party and the Mariner have witnessed the future of the world, when the work of the Immortal Mariner is complete. All death in nature is destined to be eliminated. The seraph-men and seraph-women of the future are in radiant, material bodies and they can cut the air – teleport – at will.
In the original legend of the Wandering Jew, he is given physical immortality because he abused the Immortal principle, as embodied in Jesus. In Coleridge’s version, inspired by his proximity to Glastonbury, he extends this abuse against the Immortal principle to all of nature – to the entirety of the material creation. The albatross replaces Jesus as the initiatory catalyst for the Immortalisation of all creation. This revolutionary expansion of the sacredness of all things is a prophetic vision uniting spirit and matter into a future material immortality. It is the work of the immortal Ancient Mariner to bring this future into full manifestation.
The initiatory voyage of the 300 year old Mariner was long ago. Since that time he has traveled throughout the world, learning many languages, in dedication to his Great Work. For centuries
I pass like the night, from land to land; I have strange power of speech; That moment that his face I see, I know the man that must hear me: To him my tale I teach.
With Immortal wisdom, the Mariner intuitively knows who to initiate into the wisdom that builds global harmony with nature and the eventual Immortalisation of all creation. With perfect efficiency, he only teaches his wisdom to those who are destined to contribute to the great work of overcoming death in all of nature. Like the Rainbow and Plumed Serpents, the Ancient Mariner must travel from land to land, uniting spirit with matter and humanity with all of nature, in dedication to the sublime prophetic unity of Greater Life. Coleridge’s vision in this poem is similar to the profound mystical viewpoints of William Blake and Jacob Boehme. Both of these great mystics had what Bucke termed cosmic consciousness. Those possessed of cosmic consciousness directly perceive the essential interwoven unity of all consciousness, energy and matter.
The Ancient Mariner, his eyes bright with eternal youth, his beard long and white, gives the initiate his final wisdom, learned from experience:
He prayeth well, who loveth well Both man and bird and beast.
He prayeth best, who loveth best All things both great and small; For the dear God who loveth us, He made and loveth all.
The Wedding that the initiate Guest is going to is the great Alchemical Wedding of Eden Restored – the future culmination of the Ancient Mariner’s Great Work. At the poem’s conclusion, the Guest turns away from the wedding. He can not enter until the burden of his new wisdom has been transmuted through service to the Immortal principle in all of nature. The restoration of the albatross to Midway is a strong indication that Coleridge’s prophetic future is moving closer…
Midway Atoll is the structural component of the planetary fire vortex centred in Hawaii. The Hawaiian State Motto is: Ua mau ke ea o ka ‘aina I ka pono, which means The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness. There is profound wisdom in this motto. The sacred Earth is immortal – alive forever – if we perfect all the virtues required to follow the great laws of life and nature. Harmony, through law, with the land perpetuates or immortalises all things.
In the Qabbalah, the sphere Binah is the realm of these great archetypal laws. Saturn – the macrocosmic moon - governs the evolution of living laws over time. In the same way that the Hawaiian fire vortex anchors Aries lunar events every year, Saturn in Aries, which reoccurs every 28 years, creates new revelations in our understanding and mastery of laws, principles and archetypes.
Saturn was in Aries in 1908, when Midway became the first island in the world to be annexed by the U.S.A., beyond its own continental shores. Saturn returned to Aries and trined Pluto in Sagittarius on Halloween 1996, when Midway was made a National Wildlife Refuge. Finally, on 15 June, 2006, when Midway was declared a National Monument, the archetypal North Node was at 0 degree Aries. 0 Aries is the revelation point for spiritual developments utilizing the Aries cycle. It is the solar degree for the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere and marks the annual starting point for the astrological new year.
Expect tremendous positive developments for the world when the great Saturn-Neptune conjunction occurs at 0 degree Aries on 20 February, 2026 AD. The Midway-Hawaiian fire-liberty vortex will flourish then. The moon is also in Aries on that day. The previous Saturn-Neptune conjunctions of 1989 contributed to the initiation of the first Great Wesak time cycle that activated all first cycle sites, including Midway. Always, with Midway and its related Hawaiian sites, Aries events are the key.
The geomythics of every sacred site area should be studied. Local culture and traditions help us to understand the planetary functions of the great earth chakras. In Hawaii the spirit of aloha, which means both love and hello, permeates landscape. Speak to the land and love its aliveness and mana – spiritual power – will be generated, to the benefit of all beings. Warmth, kindness, generosity of heart, humility and patience are also central to the geomythic spirit of aloha.
As stated earlier, Midway Atoll is literally midway between many forces. In general, the Hawaiian islands are placed between several important global sites. Mt. Fuji, in Japan and the Tule Tree in Mexico; Mt. Shasta, California and Uluru-Kata Tjuta in Australia; and Bali-Vancouver Island are three examples. When Drake sailed the Pacific, as mentioned earlier, he got as far north as Vancouver Island – the creative centre for the planetary base chakra. He renamed his ship the Golden Hind, which is the same name as a major sacred site on Vancouver Island. In the future, beginning in 20 April, 2027 and culminating in March, 2046 AD, a vital link between the Golden Hind on Vancouver and Easter Island is made, signifying the full integration of Islam into the Aquarian Aeon. Peace comes to the Pacific Ocean and to all of the world.
Like the United States, Japan has always had spiritual links with Midway. Every year, Mt. Fuji is the planetary anchor for the Aquarian lunar energies. The annual climbing Fuji full moon is the Aquarius full moon in July or August. In the last year of WWII, something unusual occurred relating to this Fuji Aquarian event. In 1945, there were two Aquarius full moons, on the 25th of July and the 23rd of August. The explosive Mars-Uranus conjunction in Gemini formed during this crucial Fuji month. The second Aquarius full moon was a rare, astrological Blue Moon. In between these two Fuji moons Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed.
A year later, exactly on the first Aquarian full moon Fuji climbing event after the war, on 13 August, 1946, the first ever human birth occurred on Midway Atoll. Almost 52 years later, Yoshino – as mentioned earlier – used water from Mt. Fuji to baptize the birth of Midway as the structural foundation for global peace. This planetary baptism occurred on the Mt. Kailas Scorpio full moon.
Humble and small, Midway Atoll plays a vital Earth Chakra-sacred site role in the building of the Aquarian Aeon. It is the structural foundation for the fruit of peace – liberty. Geologically, it is the most ancient and stable area in the Hawaiian chain of islands. This stability is essential to its planetary structural nature.
All three components of the fire liberty vortex have connections with the stars. Haleakala Crater, the inspirational centre, is known as the house of the sun and has a daily true solar noon link with the sun. Midway, the structural centre, marks the last sunrise, sunset, or last solar position for the daily solar pattern. And Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, the creative centre, looks – via one of the world’s great telescopes – to the stars. For the ancient Polynesians, Arcturus – the brightest star nearest the zenith – was known as Hokule’a, the Star of Gladness. Arcturus, shining high over Midway Atoll, is a bright and beautiful sign of peace and liberty gracing the future of this world during the Aquarian Aeon, over the next two millennia.
Midway is the Aries world structural centre. Mars, the ruler of Aries, is the god of war. Hawaii is the base for the largest American military presence in the world. In 1993, the Midway military facility closed. There are deeper, spiritual currents for Midway, Mars and Aries. The 21st century develops these forces.
In the Qabbalah, Mars and Aries open the spiritual pathway to liberty. Liberty is the prime quality of the Hawaiian planetary fire vortex. How do we move from war to liberty? Midway holds the key. The opposite planetary centre to Midway Atoll is Mecca. Midway is the world structural Aries centre and Mecca is the world structural centre for Libra – the opposite sign to Aries. Midway is the structural fire vortex liberty centre, and lunar anchor for Aries energies. Mecca is the structural air vortex everlasting life centre, and lunar anchor for Libra energies. Mecca also doubles as the structural centre for the Living Earth’s throat chakra – where the Word of the Earth is speaking with its greatest clarity. This word of peace emanating from the Earth is in praise of all life. The word of peace and greater life spoken by the Earth through Mecca unites and uplifts all spirit and matter into the liberty and fire of Midway. For the sake of this Aquarian Aeon, the path from Mecca to Midway must be mastered by all life. Midway speaks to Mecca: Peace is flourishing here. May salaam be upon all creation. Midway awaits the reply from Mecca. Know that the Word of that reply is Liberty. There are keys in Coleridge’s visionary poem that harmonise and connect Midway and Mecca in the 21st century.
We move from war to peace and liberty through the process of purification. The greatest force for purification is the fire of praise. This is the highest power of Mars and Aries. It is the sacred duty of this Living Earth - and every being - to perpetuate within all hearts fires that praise the presence and illuminate the glory of the Divine eternally residing within the entirety of time and space. The Living Earth nourishes this Immortal Fire at the centre of its planetary heart forever. Vow to never let these fires within your own heart, and within the hearts of all beings, be quelled or extinguished. Do this, and all wars shall cease, peace shall come, and liberty shall be the great mature fruit of this unfolding Aquarian Aeon – nourishing every life and every species on the planet.
Praise opens the gate and reveals the clear pathway to liberty. From Midway to Easter Island, let the spiritual grace of the Pacific Ocean be revealed to all life. May peace be with all beings!

From out of the infinite possibilities alive within this ocean of time and space, let the spirit of liberty bring peace and immortal life to all creation, here on Earth and throughout the universe! The Word of this Living Earth is Peace. The Word of this ancient Living Earth is Salaam. Through the fire of praise, the fruit of this Peace is Liberty. May Peace, Praise, Liberty and Everlasting Life be upon all beings! Proclaim the Victory of Peace throughout the Universe! Oh Let It Be! Oh Let It Be! Oh Let It Be! Clarity of Vision has been redeemed throughout the Universe!
